About Me

My photo
After many years in aviation as a corporate pilot, the Good Lord has guided me on a career path I never saw myself taking. As it was so elegantly put in the movie Top Gun, I now literally find myself "flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog #$@! out of Hong Kong"! Ah, but this is not just any cargo plane...it is currently one of the largest, longest range, most technologically advanced cargo planes in the world...the Boeing 777F!

Izmir, Turkey - One Quick Overnight

It was just one quick overnight here & as a result we stuck rather close to the hotel along the water front. However, in what I did see of Izmir, I found it to be a rather progressive Muslim city (compaired to Cairo), in that we didn't see any women in the traditional full head coverings (or for that matter, any type of head coverings) & saw many local men & women holding hands & hugging as they walked along the Mediterranean coast. What we did see gave me the impression that this city & Turkey in general is quite technologically modern.

In the background you can see a museum aboard this Turkish Navy ship & sub.

That tall structure is our hotel, the Crown Plaza.
Most of these small fishing boats actually had the owner living aboard & as we walked the waterfront in the evening, many of them were on the deck or dock cooking their dinner.
