It was just one quick overnight here & as a result we stuck rather close to the hotel along the water front. However, in what I did see of Izmir, I found it to be a rather progressive Muslim city (compaired to Cairo), in that we didn't see any women in the traditional full head coverings (or for that matter, any type of head coverings) & saw many local men & women holding hands & hugging as they walked along the Mediterranean coast. What we did see gave me the impression that this city & Turkey in general is quite technologically modern.

Most of these small fishing boats actually had the owner living aboard & as we walked the waterfront in the evening, many of them were on the deck or dock cooking their dinner.
